NUST Olympiad, 2017
NUST OLYMPIAD aims to celebrate diversity, discover talent from across the hand and give it its due appreciation. With 8 well-regarded and important sponsors, 15 renowned eateries and 4 major artistes, NUST Olympiad 2017 managed to bag a staggering 2000 plus registrations of students from all over Pakistan.

NUST Olympiad acknowledges and appreciates the individuality and uniqueness of the youth of this country and therefore planned and executed 32 wide-ranging events, i.e., sports, art competitions, E gaming, etc.

DAY 1:

Day 1 began with a lengthy and demanding registration process at gate no.10. The organizing committee braved the challenges and remained seated at their desks for over 12 hours to verify and register each participant keenly from dawn to dusk. Furthermore, the accommodation team spread out in selected hostels to welcome the participants and make them feel at home. Adm Directorate made arrangements for 270 boys and about 90 girls in the common rooms of various hostels.

The process continued in the background as participants kept arriving at varied timings throughout the day. In the meantime, the remaining members of organizing committee conducted the opening ceremony at the Jinnah Auditorium, officially initiating the Olympiad. The honorable Rector NUST graced the occasion as the chief guest, and senior management, faculty and student delegates attended the opening ceremony.

The theme dinner ran smoothly at the pre-defined venue amid inclement weather. At the theme dinner many surprises awaited the participants, including return tickets for the winners of a unique and quick talent show conducted at the spot.

DAY 2:

The organizers got ready early the following day and faced the challenges of the unpredictable weather of Islamabad. Quick decisions were made on ground, venues were moved around and necessary rescheduling was done on requirement basis. The first and second (in some cases) rounds were executed for 19 different events at 16 different venues, graciously granted by all schools and directorates of NUST. Said events included Squash, Table Tennis, Badminton, Wall Climbing and NUST Youth Parliament, etc.

All events were concluded by 1900 hrs and the participants were informed via posts on social media about the much-awaited Cultural Carnival scheduled for the remainder of evening. The marketing and on-ground marketing portfolios and social events team were rewarded for their steadfast efforts when the SCME ground was filled up with over 3000 attendees. The carnival was further hyped up by DJ Toshi taking up the stage in front of an energized crowd. Next up was Asrar, another of the major artistes promised to entertain the participants of NUST Olympiad, students and faculty at NUST.

The carnival was gloriously illuminated owing to the tireless efforts of the Décor team.

DAY 3:

Day 3 witnessed the events running like clockwork. Some featured played their first rounds on the third day as scheduled, like the entertaining Egg Rover Mission, Essay Writing, E-gaming and Mathletics. 24 heavy events were planned and executed on this tiring day but the Admin Events portfolio of the organizing committee managed everything impeccably. Most event heads aimed to and succeeded in playing the final rounds of their respective events before day 4 and tallied and finalized the results.

A little less than a month before the Olympiad, the two main artistes of the concert night, Ali Azmat and RoXen Band, were announced. Both artistes entertained the audience, respected the curfew and truly gave the audience their money’s worth. The décor was exquisite and the complementary fireworks added to the charm of the night.

DAY 4:

Starting early morning, the leftover final games were played, most notably Cricket, Basketball and Badminton Finals, giving way to the bittersweet ending. Participants had packed up the night before. The hostels were ready to be vacated and the buses were scheduled to arrive no later than dusk.

The closing ceremony was held at Jinnah Auditorium. Pro-Rector Academics, Dr. Asif Raza, graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. The winners were enthused to be receiving their due appreciation and winning prizes and the organizers were finally relaxed and stress-free. Two awards were given out for each game, adding up to 74 brilliantly-designed shields, 250 certificates and about 6 Lakh PKR in the form of prize money. The participants were then invited on the stage to have their group photos with the Chief Guest marking the end of event.

To everyone’s immense pleasure, the Olympiad had come to a successful and memorable close with another promise for next year; bigger and better.
