Sara Mansoor, student of Mass Communication at NUST School of Social Sciences and Humanities (S3H), and top-seeded female tennis player of Pakistan, won the women’s title at the Subh-e-Nau National Tennis Championship 2015, held at PTF Complex, Islamabad, during the first week of December.
Sarah faced seasoned player Shahida Farooq with ease, and won the set 6-0, 6-0. Sara Mahboob, who overpowered Mehak Khokhar 6-2, 6-0, went on to play Sara Mansoor in the finals. Sara Mansoor won the first set 6-4, and was eventually awarded the match after Sarah Mehboob’s shoulder injury rendered her unable to continue the match in the second set.
Patron Pakistan Tennis Federation Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas was the chief guest, while PTF President Saleem Saifullah, former president Anwar Saifullah, Chairperson Subh-e-Nau Shahida Kausar Farooq and secretary PTF Khalid Rehmani were also present on the occasion.
Ms Shahida thanked the sponsors, media and other stakeholders for such a successful event, while commending Subh-e-Nau on setting the tradition of awarding equal prize money among men’s and women’s players. She demanded of the PTF officials to give more chance to female players so that they could compete more fittingly on the international stage. Chief guest Syed Dilawar Abbas also appreciated SN’s efforts for setting unique precedents that benefited the participants.
