Team “Flowlines” from NUST School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) has won the national round of Microsoft Imagine
Cup 2020. The award ceremony was held at Pakistan China Friendship Centre,
Islamabad, on February 19, 2020. The occasion was graced by eminent guests
including Federal Minister for Education Mr Shafqat Mahmood, Digital Pakistan’s
Incharge Ms Tania Aidrus and Chairman Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Dr
Microsoft Imagine Cup is a premier international event about
product ideas and software development. Being described as the
"Olympics" for Software Engineering students, it invites students
from around the world to come up with innovative technical ideas and their
The winning project from NUST is a collaborative mobile app,
where users can draw images and write text in the air, which can be seen by
anyone, through augmented reality technology. The team members; Mahad Masood
Bajwa, Momin Muazzam and Noor binte Amir conceived the idea and worked under
the supervision of their faculty advisor, Dr M. Ali Tahir. Another project from
NUST, “Canvas insight” was declared the runner up at the regional level. Anas
Abdul Majid, Amna Tariq, and Madiha Urooj along with their faculty advisor, Dr
Pakeeza Akram conceived the idea and worked together.
The winning team is scheduled to travel to the next round of
Microsoft Imagine Cup in Amsterdam, Netherlands to compete against the teams
from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The final teams from that round
will proceed to the final competition at Seattle, USA.
